A Decades worth of Integrated Facilities Management Experience

Image of Ishmael Mncwaba

Ishmael Mncwaba - BOSASA Group board member - has a well over a decade’s worth of experience in integrated facilities management.

Forming part of a global network of individuals striving to optimise technical processes, his performance is backed by his B.A. in Administration.

Ishmael’s success with BOSASA IFM is built on the formidable combination of theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. But his mastery of the field is balanced by a deep sense of principles and guided by a spirituality that mirrors the ethos of the BOSASA Group. This synthesis of purpose and professionalism has earned respect from clients and staff on a professional and personal level.

Interpersonal skills are Ishmael’s greatest strength.

Praised for his ability to sustain high level communication across the organization, he has been responsible for the benchmarking of valuable relationships between clients, vendors and stakeholders alike. With a ‘hands on’ attitude, he has developed a reputation of accessibility to personnel at all levels, supporting client core activities along the way. His immersion in company activities has contributed to his comprehensive knowledge of BOSASA operations at every level.

But, like any striving professional, Ishmael’s journey has been one of constant learning and growth. When he first began at BOSASA, a company culture of involvement and generosity was completely foreign to him. Emerging from a cut-throat corporate structure, which he describes as being “survival of the fittest”, he had to adjust to BOSASA’s ethos of generosity and teamwork. No longer driven by a mindset of “the best man wins”, Ishmael soon began taking more pride in the accomplishments of the team. If one member of the BOSASA team wins, we all do.

While BOSASA personnel are goal driven, they maintain a strong sense of connectivity, a stark contrast to sometimes ruthless corporate conventionalities of other large companies. “One hand helps the other”, Ishmael says of his current role, in which he lives the spirit of teamwork. His regard for the concept of teamwork is paralleled only by his respect for the leader of that team, Gavin Watson. For Ishmael, Gavin Watson is a leader chosen for his focus, fearlessness and dedication to a cause: to lead South African people to victory.

Ishmael takes Watson’s leadership style as an example for his own conduct.

Being team oriented makes Ishmael no less a go getter. He seeks to pursue his goals with the focused determination, discipline and drive that equal nothing but success. Once Ishmael has a goal in mind he sets out to achieve it and says that he never comes back empty handed. But his desire for personal success extends to his company and nation. The ultimate goal, for Ishmael Mncwaba, is to see SA transformed.  And he believes that with discipline and drive, “when we set out to accomplish something, we will do it”.
